Luisa Becker, a master student from the Biocomputing lab, is at the Colorado University (CU) in Boulder, CO, USA for a three-month research internship right now. In Boulder, Luisa is working in Prof. Dr. Nolan Kane’s lab (Department for Ecology and Evolutionary Biology), and she tries to better understand which effects the domestication of sunflower (Helianthus annuus) had on its genome. For that, Luisa uses several methods from population genetics and bioinformatics in order to identify genomic regions which have been influenced by domestication. For her internship, Luisa was awarded with the DAAD-PROMOS scholarship.
